"the stumbling mushroom" -Justin C.M. Brown, 10.4.2021
a dark path through the woods at night
the ground
covered with leaves
kudzu
fallen logs lay upon the feet of mighty trees
a dark path curving
many travelers have woven between these trees
but only the brave do at night
the brave and me
there are things that cannot be seen in the daylight
a tavern
no taller than a mushroom
with a softly glowing window
giving its location away
a sign above the door which reads...
the stumbling mushroom
the fairies
they poisoned me
if i were their size
it would have killed me
instead i can't stop laughing
at least i think it's me
save one thought
to make it home
if i remember where
follow the sunrise
with my eyes closed
on a dark path at night
...
everything about this song makes me queasy and i love it.
the slurry rhythm, the synths that disappear and reappear in a different place
the crash cymbal that doesn't really crash, like it's sneaking in the house after curfew
it feels like the lurching yet deliberate motions of
walking to the gas station after drinking cold medicine and hot milk
